The New Medici – Catwalk Sponsored by Realtor

POSTED ON March 23rd  - POSTED IN Elli's Archives, Toronto Real Estate News

I sponsored a fashion show this week. It was a very exciting evening for both myself and my guests. We were fortunate enough that Deirdre Kelly was there. Here’s what Deirdre wrote about the evening.

You’ve heard of model homes. Now make room for runway real estate. Elli Davis, a leading Toronto broker, helped sponsor a catwalk show on Tuesday night. Local designer Lucian Matis, a Project Runway runner-up, presented a solid show of jaw-dropping gowns that sparkled like the flashy big-ticket condos now beading the city skyline. While the clothing whispered glamour, their association with Ms. Davis loudly declared that where you live, darling, is as important as what you wear.

The pairing of beauty and property isn’t entirely new. In New York, it’s not uncommon to find models in Manolos and Gucci showing condos to prospective buyers, the idea being that their good looks and superior sense of style will impart the feeling that buying expensive real estate is a lifestyle experience, as memorable as buying a Birkin bag. In Ms. Davis’s case, the aim was brand promotion – her own and that of the abundantly talented Mr. Matis: “I wanted my name out there with his.”

Thankful for her support, Mr. Matis custom-made Ms. Davis a black silk-and-chiffon cocktail dress to wear to his L’Oreal Fashion Week fall-line debut. “I felt great in it, and got a lot of compliments,” she said. Houses and clothes: It’s all about the right fit.

How to Buy a Condo in Toronto for Less: Elli Davis Featured on Global’s Real Investment TV

POSTED ON February 4th  - POSTED IN Elli's Archives, Toronto Real Estate News

Last Saturday, Sean Cowan from Global Television’s Real Investments TV interviewed Elli on how to buy a condo in Toronto. The focus of the piece was whether it is better to buy new or resale.

Elli sees the advantages of buying new – but points out that the excitement of new comes with a stiff price tag – costs which are hidden from the buyer until the very end:

With a new condo you will get up to the minute appliances and maybe higher ceilings. However in new you would have to put in your own wall coverings, window coverings, paint colours, carpeting upgrades, etc.

The big advantage to resale:

In resale you can see what you are buying. You actually inherit many extras in the price….Anything that the owner has already put into the property.

In general, buying a resale condo is safer concludes Elli – because you can physically visit the actual property:

Keep in mind you are buying from a floor plan from a sales office. The most common complaint I hear is “Oh, It’s a little smaller than I thought it would be. Or that “there’s something there that I didn’t expect”.

Enjoy!

A night of Celebration

POSTED ON April 24th  - POSTED IN Elli's Archives, Toronto Real Estate News

In 1983, Elli Davis took a chance and left teaching and became a Real Estate agent. Elli had a flair for the field and it showed with her first sale occurring three weeks after receiving her Realtor’s license. For Elli it has been her passion ever since.

Fast forward to April 10th 2008, where over 400 guests gathered to pay tribute to Elli’s 25 year career. The venue was the Round Room of The Carlu,a Landmark in downtown Toronto where guests mingled while enjoying a variety exquisite foods and desserts throughout the evening. The room was elegantly decorated and the atmosphere was infused with sounds of chic music as guests were entertained by Brian Master Productions.

Highlights of the night included a speech from:

  • Gino Romanese – Senior Vice President of Royal LePage. Mr. Romanese gave statistics on Royal LePage and Elli’s contribution to the company and the Real Estate profession.
  • Pamela Kempthorne – Director of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation was also at the event to speak about Elli’s generous donation of a play set to Interval House, which is one of the shelters supported by the foundation.

Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is proud to partner with local women’s shelters to help make a difference in the lives of women and children who have been affected by violence.

The night was enjoyed by all who attended as they celebrated and reminisced on Elli’s career. One partygoer reflected on the time when Elli sold his home;

“so it was 10 am and she rings my door bell on Hazelton, I come down the stairs with bed head and little dazed, I open the door and I hear “Michael, you’ve got to move out of your house I sold it… Ah, the good old days.”

Another guest was quoted as saying “wasn’t that a great tribute to her and her career?” Not only was it a night of celebration but truly a night to remember for Elli and all those who were fortunate to be a part of it.
