Islamic conference in Toronto

By , December 25, 2009

We live in one busy city even during the most peaceful time of the year. The biggest Christian holidays, when almost everything is closed and calm are a quite convenient time for Muslims to meet up. Thousands of them from across Canada and the US are now arriving to Toronto to attend one of the biggest Islamic conferences in Canada.

The three days long, 8th annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit Convention is taking place at the Metro Convention Centre. Approximately 17,000 people are expected to attend to witness scholarly discussion about topics such as the mending of the Muslim faith with the Western world. The first Reviving the Islamic Spirit took place shortly after the terrorist attacks from 11th September 2001 in the US. Its aim was and still is to somehow support and help moderate Muslims in North America.

Nice! This conference is pretty good, as long as it helps moderate Muslims. It's true that especially after the terrorist attacks many people started to associate Muslims with terrorists, which, of course, isn't right. Great to have something like this in Toronto, isn't it? It shows what a diverse city it really is.
