Rossi would sell Toronto Hydro

December 17, 2009

Seems like the candidates for mayors of Toronto just cannot be quiet until the official start of the campaign, 4th January 2010. On Tuesday, Rocco Rossi has declared he would bring new ideas to Toronto, he didn't mention many of them, though.

Calling himself fiscally conservative and socially very liberal, Rossi would start with selling assets in Toronto to pay the city's debt, the level of which is currently $2.4 billion. Firstly, Rossi would sell Toronto Hydro, which Toronto is only shareholder of. Cutting his own salary is another point of Rossi's plan. It is "utterly unacceptable" to him that the City Council has not rolled back salary increase this year.

A nice idea about decreasing his salary, really. I'm wondering whether something like that would actually happen if Rossi became Mayor. Also, we have an interesting situation here – candidates for the Mayor do not obey the rules even before being elected. What would they do after winning?
