Smitherman’s ideas for better Toronto

The official campaigns of wanna-be-mayors of Toronto have not started yet. In spite of the fact they are supposed to be launched only on 4th January 2010, one of the candidates, George Smitherman has already begun with expressing his vision of better Toronto.
Smitherman seems to be quite unhappy about the current situation. “We can celebrate new condo construction, and we can embrace the sound principle of intensification. But celebration is hollow if our people are commuting clear out of town." he said. Thus his main goal is to pay close attention to ideas that might create jobs for citizens of Toronto. He also aims to achieve better regional transit and improve co-ordination between Toronto and other regional municipalities.
Smitherman believes that Toronto can be a great economic power if there is equally big political will. And he of course isn’t, in his own words, afraid to take risks. Well, let’s hope that his expressions, just like the words of other candidates will not be only empty promises, but also bring some benefits to our city.
