Age Limits of Ontario Drivers

The government of Ontario should not decide about age limits of drivers, Premier Dalton McGuinty claims. Seniors and their doctors should know the time to stop driving themselves. „For some folks, it's sooner rather than later, but there does come a point in time when it is no longer safe for you to drive a car.“ he said.
All the fuss about the age of drivers in Ontario was caused by an accident last week when an 83-year-old female driver hit a mother with her baby. Unfortunately, the mother did not survive the accident. McGuinty does not think that this incident should be further solved in the government. He, however, is going to listen to possible advices of the Transport Minister Jim Bradley, who says that Ontario actually has the toughest regime in Canada for elderly drivers. After the age of 80, they need to pass a written test and a road test.
I believe we need safe roads, that is true. But I also agree with McGuinty – if I will ever feel like I shouldn’t drive anymore, I will just stop with it, because my life would also be endangered by that. Government cannot decide about everything in our lives, sometimes it’s up to us. And actually, I’m wondering whether there would be talks about the accident if the driver was younger. Accidents can happen to anyone, really. It’s not always the matter of age.
