Bad Employment Situation in Ontario

Unemployed by Pace Ebbesen
Bad employment prospects for Toronto and Ontario! According to Statistics Canada, in the job sphere, Ontario currently belongs to the worst parts in whole Canada, where the unemployment rate remained unchanged, at 8.5 percent in December 2009.
In Ontario, the rate was above the average Canada level, at 9.3 percent. During last month, 17,000 positions were lost in Ontario and since late 2008 171,000 jobs were shed here, making up more than 50 percent of lost jobs in the whole country. Regarding Toronto, the jobless rate in December was even 0.2 percentage points higher than Ontario average, going up to 9.5 percent for second month in a row.
Quite sad and ashaming at the same time. The job statistics in 2009 certainly weren’t helping our economy to recover. Let’s hope the new year will bring us more positive news about employment in our region, even though the outlook is not great.
