By Elli Davis, January 4, 2010
Today is the day the race to replace the current Mayor of Toronto, David Miller, can officially start. Candidates can now formally register to run for mayor at the City Hall, which is open since 8:30 today. The campaign will last more than ten months, until 25th October 2010.

However, Rocco Rossi was the first candidate who filed the nomination papers - he did so this morning, right after opening of the City Hall. Rossi believes that his strategy to have filed the papers immediately is right, because Torontians at least will see who is really interested in becoming a Mayor of the city.
As for other candidates, none of them seems to be as impatient as Rossi. Councilor Giorgio Mammoliti is planning to file the papers for the race during the week. John Tory, a candidate who run and lost in 2003 will not register today either. The same goes for former deputy premier George Smitherman, who said "January 4 may mark the beginning but I have my eye on the Oct. 25 finish line."
Interesting ten months full of political meetings and promises are ahead of us. Let the competition begin and see who will be the winner in the end!
