G7 Summit Strategy

Iqaluit by Colin Jagoe
The next meeting of G7 finance and central bank leaders is almost here! It is going to take place on 5th and 6th February in Iqaluit. This summit is going to be less formal, according to Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. He believes that this style will bring more open and less official discussions on important issues.
Apparently, there will be no neck ties. The informal space should make the talks more useful and honest about issues such as currency. Flaherty is also hoping that another positive factor is the place of the summit. Such an isolated place could possibly make leaders concentrate more and even lead to a newly discovered commitment to reforms’ implementation.
I’m quite curious whether this strategy will actually work and more problems will be solved as the leaders will feel more comfortable and free to speak frankly. We will see the outcomes in about three weeks! Cannot wait!
