In comparison with 2008, MLS transactions in GTA increased by 17 percent up to 87,308 in 2009, Greater Toronto Realtors reported on Wednesday. This positive result is just consistent with levels of sales from 2004 and 2006. However, they do not top 93,193 sales from 2007.

As for the comparison of sales in December of 2008 and 2009, there was a big year-to-year increase. In the last month of 2008, 2,577 homes were sold, while in December 2009, the sales went up to ass much as 5,541, which means a 115 percent increase. Concerning new listings, no significant increase occurred in a period of 12 months. In December 2008, there were 5,215 new listings and the number rose to 5,506 one year later, suggesting only a 6 percent increase.

Overall, the 2009 level as high as the ones from 2004 and 2006 is a nice result. Actually, not a high number is missing to reach the very high 2007 level. Hopefully the 2010 results will positively suprise us and maybe even cut the 2007 record.
