After the terrible earthquake that has destroyed tens and hundreds of buildings nearby Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, Toronto Mayor David Miller publicly expressed his condolences to the Haitian community in Toronto and to people of Haiti. Miller also spoke about the plans of the city to help.
"As with previous disasters, I have asked Toronto's office of emergency management to determine the best way for the city to respond," he said. According to his words, the disaster significantly resonates to the city, as it is home to thousands of people of Haiti origin, who form a part of Toronto's culturally rich mosaic.
The consequences are just horrible. I feel so sorry for all the Haitians who lost their home or their loved one. They are constantly in my thoughts and I will certainly do something to help. Let's do a good thing and help them together! I'm glad our city is trying to be helpful too. Haiti desperately needs it.
