Some positive news about the unemployment situation in Canada! As the official data from yesterday (Friday) suggest, our economy created approximately 43,000 jobs in January 2010! Thanks to that, the unemployment rate in Canada has declined by 0.1 percent to the level of 8.3 percent.

That is the lowest rate since September 2009. The January gain is actually already the fourth one in the past six months. The majority of the created jobs are part-time. Due to that fact, the part-time employment returned to the level of six months earlier. Full-time employment has not changed much over the past few weeks.

Self-employment decreased and there were bigger employment gains in private sector than in public sector. The concrete sectors with the most significant growth are building, business, support services in general and also retail and wholesale trade sectors. Very nice, seems like we are back on the right track. Too bad Ontario, including Toronto, belongs to the worst areas in employment.
