The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has released a new report this week called Recession, Recovery and the Future Evolution of the Labor Market. As it title suggests already, it concentrates on the recession and its consequences, and also the labor market.
According to the report, the current demographic situation - aging population and low birth rate in our country might well hurt the labor market in Canada. As the President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Perrin Beatty says "Canada will have too few workers to meet the needs of its economy and of society." Beatty believes there is a need to expand Canada's labor force if Canadian economy should keep on growing.
Even though the recession and bad employment situation redirected the attention of the public from labor shortages, the report claims, those will appear again after full economic recovers. Not a positive prediction. But it’s true. We should pay more attention to labor shortages, because it mih not end up well, if we will just overlook this problem.
