Toronto’s Protected Rivers

The valleys of two more Toronto rivers might soon become protected as part of the Ontario initiative called Greenbelt, the goal of which to protect green space in the province for the future. Don and the Humber Rivers valleys would thus follow Rouge River, which already is on the protected list.
According to Toronto Mayor David Miller, adding the two mentioned valleys to Greenbelt would mean that all of Toronto’s “cherished river systems will be protected for generations to come.” He is convinced that if we want to live in a nice city, we need to be protective of our environment. Toronto City Council has therefore unanimously agreed to request for Rouge River to become a part of Greenbelt.
Interestingly, the initiative is just celebrating its fifth anniversary during this weekend. And what could possibly be better than to expand it, right? Well, happy anniversary and keep up the good work!
