A New Plan for Ontario
March 1, 2010

A new plan by Dan Foy
Open Ontario. That is the name of the new five year plan for the province which will be officially released on March 8. According to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, it is a plan aimed at "building a new foundation for economic growth and jobs."
“Why couldn’t we come together, industry and government, and commit ourselves to a strategy to make Toronto one of the world’s elite financial centers?” McGuinty openly asked suggesting that he is interested in making Toronto a top economic city.
As for other sectors, for example education will also be an important part of the plan, with emphasis on the post-secondary education, and especially attracting more foreign students. We need to get serious about competing for international students, McGuinty said. He believes that the clean water sector needs to expand too, thus it is included in Open Ontario.
We need to wait one more week to find out the details, though. Who knows how popular McGuinty’s current decisions and steps will be and whether the Open Ontario plan is already a part of the campaign – let’s not forget elections are to take place in 2011.
