New Toronto Neighborhood

We have a new Toronto neighborhood!!! The area in the West End of the city, in between Dundas and Lansdowne, has gotten a new name. Out of suggested possibilities, after two rounds of voting, its residents choose the name ‘Junction Triangle’.
About 46 percent of voters went for this option, which actually is a nice coincidence, as many environmental activists started calling the place ‘Junction Triangle’ back in 1970′s – the name however was not never officially used. The name ‘Perth Park’ got the second highest number of votes, 28 percent. Quite popular among the voters was also the name ‘Black Oak’.
Kevin Putnam, the co-founder of the Fuzzy Boundaries initiative, which aim was to officially name the community, believes that “the name helps to “create a sense of community,” in the area. And I cannot disagree – it is nice to be recognized and the people living in the area now can perhaps feel some kind of collective identity – they will all be living in one, official neighborhood.
