A Plan to Save Toronto?
March 21, 2010

Take A Seat by Eduardo Zarate
“A complete subway system is our key to a strong and dynamic future, but it has fallen prey to budgetary impotence and political trepidation.” These strong words were said by Sarah Thomson, one of the candidates for Toronto Mayor. Her solution to Toronto’s problems is hence easy – she claims all we need to do is to add 58 kilometers of subway lines.
Another suggestion by Thomson, is peole paying a $5 road toll on the Don Valley Parkway or the Gardiner Expressway. That could, according to her words, generate between $400 million and $500 million per year. It would last for 10 years and these money would basically finance the new subway system.
Sounds like a nice plan, I admit it. But seriously, everything is easier said than done – I need some more demonstration that it would work. We should not forget Thomson has basically no political experience. And well, does anyone think she will win the elections?
