Toronto Real Estate Board has released the newest ‘Market Watch’ report. It includes fresh data about the housing situation in the Greater Toronto Area in March and overall in the first quarter of 2010.

This past month, 10,430 sales through the Multiple Listing Service were reported in GTA. That is a 69 percent rise from March last year, when 6,171 homes were sold. The March sales added up significantly to the final number of home sales in the area during the first quarter of 2010 which was 22,418 homes sold. The number of new listings was 18,914 this past month and that means a 42 percent increase from 13,357 in March 2009.

The average price for a transaction was $434,696 last month. The average in the first quarter of this year was $427,948. The median price was $370,000 past month – quite a noticeable increase from the $317,500 in March 2009. Seems like March was very successful! I am slightly afraid that in a year, we will have to be satisfied with less and will be left discussing how great March 2010 was.
