Finally, there is great news on the employment front after a period of unemployment and job losses. Last month was extremely successful and Canada recorded the most significant rise in employment on record (which go back to 1976), Statistic Canada announced in Ottawa.

Almost 109,000 jobs were created in our country in April 2010. That helped the unemployment rate to drop to 8.1 percent from its March level of 8.2 percent. The rise in jobs was mainly due to private companies, who created 108,500 positions. On the other hand, 1,800 people in the public sector lost their jobs last month. Both part-time and full-time work rose, the former by 64,800 and the latter by 43,800.

Fantastic! I have been really concerned about the unemployment lately, as it did not seem to be recovering as well as other sectors of our economy. The situation has fortunately changed, though. Let’s see how this will influence the Bank of Canada and the rise in interest rates.
