Statistics Canada came with fresh employment news on Friday! From the results, it seems like Canada is actually doing just fine even in the labor market. After a fabulous April, May was pretty good too. About 24,700 new jobs were created in our country and the unemployment figures, for May, stood at 8.1 percent.
As for the unemployment rate in the Canadian provinces, the news was quite mixed – in some of them, the employment situation improved and in some, it didn’t. The rate in Ontario, for instance, was worse in May than in April – that is, from 8.8 percent unemployment recorded in April, it rose to 8.9 in May. Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec and Manitoba followed this trend, too. On the other hand, in Newfoundland, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the unemployment rate was lower last month than it was in April.
Quite solid results, I would say. Yes, April was awesome but not every month can be that great. We ought to be glad Canada is doing much better than many other countries, even in employment issues.
