Wholesale Sales Declined Again

Wholesale sales in Canada surprisingly fell again in May, for the second month in a row. Overall sales only declined by 0.1 percent, to $44.1 billion, Statistics Canada announced earlier this week. The most significant factor influencing the decline was agricultural supplies, which declined by as much as 30 percent.

Inflation Slowed Down

The annual inflation rate in Canada slowed down a little in June, Statistics Canada has announced this week. Excluding the eight volatile items, the rate fell from 1.8 to 1.7 percent last month. Moreover, the consumer price index increased by its slowest pace in seven months, by only 1 percent.

Parking Fees In Canada

Toronto has the second highest parking fees among Canadian cities, the 10th Annual Parking Rate Survey of Colliers International conducted in June 2010 has found out. Not only that but the prices in the city increased by 10.2 percent over the year and they are predicted to continue rising due to supply and demand, the organization claims.

The Bank of Canada has just raised the key lending rate for the second time in a very short period of time! After no increases for months, raises for two months in a row may be a little shocking for borrowers. The bank, however, believes that our economy is healthy enough to survive the new level of the benchmark rate, 0.75 percent, with no significant difficulties.

The July housing news is here! According to Greater Toronto Realtors, 2,790 sales through the Multiple Listing Service were recorded in GTA during the first 14 days of this month. Not very surprisingly, the number sold was significantly higher during the same period in 2009.

June Housing Starts

Housing starts in Canada fell again last month! As Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation announced this week, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts was 189,300 units in June 2010. The fall from May with its 195,300 units, is as high as 3.1 percent.

Insolvencies in Canada Declining

The total number of insolvencies (that is, bankruptcies and proposals) in Canada has been declining! From March to April 2010, they went down by 2.5 percent. Bankruptcies themselves fell by 1.3 percent, while the proposals decreased by 5.2 percent, the Canadian Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy reported earlier this week.

Statistics Canada has revealed surprisingly fantastic results concerning employment in Canada! Job creation activity in the country in June 2010 was extremely high, about five times higher than it was expected. Approximately 93,200 jobs were created and the unemployment rate fell to 7.9 percent over the last month, which is the lowest level of unemployment since January 2009.

Another Home Prices Rise

May did not disappoint! As Statistics Canada announced on Thursday, there was another increase in new home prices in Canada, for the 11th month running. The new Housing Price Index increased by 0.3 percent.

Home Sales Declined in June

A decline in home sales! That is what Greater Toronto realtors eported for the month of June. According to the report, there were 8,442 recorded sales through the Multiple Listing Service in the Greater Toronto Area this past month, which is a 23 percent fall from the 10,955 sold homes recorded in June 2009.

Royal Bank of Canada has once again released the results of its Consumer Outlook Index! It shows that in the second quarter of 2010, the consumer confidence of Canadians has not changed at all if compared to the beginning of the year.

The population of Canada crossed an important mark in April! More than 34 million people (approximately 34,019,000) are living in our country, Statistics Canada announced. From January 2010, it means there was a 0.26 percent increase, which works out at an additional 88,100 people.
