Hot off the press, the housing results are here! As the new report released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows, the revised seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts was 192,800 units in June 2010. That is a fall of 3.1 percent from a revised 198,900 units in May. Ontario did not do well, unfortunately.
The rate of urban starts went down from the May level of 171,000 to166,500 units in June. Urban multiple starts declined from 94,200 to 89,100 units during the month, and urban single starts, rose from 76,800 to 77,400 units. In Ontario, the rate of urban starts fell by 17 percent to 52,600 units. If comparing this year so far to the same period from 2009, 2010 is more successful. Actual urban starts during the first six months of 2010 rose by 52.8 percent to 79,875 units, if compared to the first half of 2009.
Personally, I am not satisfied at all with the results of Ontario, but I guess we should have expected this – nothing can keep on rising forever. What is your opinion?
