One does not always have to be an architect to look at a building and recognize what architectural style it is based on, especially one of the more common styles. However, many people only know a little about the many different archetectural styles and are too busy to study any of them in detail. That is why I want to introduce you to one of the most famous styles, the Tudor. Read on and impress everyone the next time you discuss houses.

How should we deal with the rising number of condos being built? What is there to know about condos in Toronto?

A graphic Vertical Toronto recently published in the Star provides answers to these questions. It tells you everything you could possibly want to know about Toronto condominiums.

Over the past 10 to 15 years, the average residential real estate sale transaction has gone from a relatively straightforward deal to a more sophisticated business transaction. The basic mechanics remain the same: list the property, find a buyer, and close the deal. However, other requirements have made the sales process more convoluted, including disclosure statements, home inspections, environmental issues, and the Internet.

The greatest thing about supermarkets is that they are practical: you can get almost anything you need in a space of a few square metres. Furthermore, plenty of them are open 24/7, so if you are craving ice cream in the middle of the night, you can just go and get some. Many of those who appreciate all of this will, however, agree that when it comes to shopping for groceries, there is nothing better than fresh food markets. One of the things Toronto really prides itself on is its diversity and multicultural values. It does so by supporting immigrants and showing others that their work is worthy of appreciation. There is an institution doing this kind of work called the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC). Annually, TRIEC gives out Immigrant Success Awards, recognizing leadership and innovation in recruiting and retaining skilled immigrants in the Toronto region. Matt Galloway, host of Metro Morning at CBLA-FM, commented on these awards very accurately: “I don’t think you can state it clearly enough. Where is it more expensive to live, in Canada or in the U.S.? As surprising as it might seem, cities in neither of these countries is home to the most expensive cities in the world, at least according to Mercer’s 2011 Cost of Living Survey. Even the most costly cities here are nowhere close to the top five globally: Luanda (Angola), Tokyo (Japan), N’Djamena (Chad), Moscow (Russia), and Geneva (Switzerland). Still, it is good to know which places in Canada and the U.S. cost the most and, on the other end of the spectrum, which are the least expensive.

Sugar Beach by Mark Watmough

Sometimes after a long, hot, busy summer day, I wish I could go home, jump in a pool and relax. I am sure you know the feeling, however not everyone has a pool at home. As Torontonians, we are extremely lucky to live in a city situated right on Lake Ontario, which gives us many opportunities to spend the day by the water. So where can we to enjoy the refreshing water in and around Toronto?

The World’s Oldest Buildings

Ruins by Shandchem

Are you familiar with the three oldest buildings in the world? There are unsurprisingly disputes about this issue. It is extremely hard to be sure about the exact age of a building, and it is possible that some very old buildings remain to be discovered. Nonetheless, here are three buildings that belong among the oldest in the world, even though we can not say conclusively that they are the oldest. We can almost certainly state that neither the pyramids nor Stonehenge are the oldest, even if this is a common belief.

Colours play a leading role in interior design. There is much more to colour schemes than just individual taste as your home’s “soul” can be determined by this palette. You may not even realize it, but a room can feel more comfortable, bright or elegant simply due to the colours you have chosen. How to select the right colours can be difficult, though.

Movies are an amazing topic for discussion. Everyone has their favourites, and many envy the lives of their favourite characters from film. Over the years, a great many movies and TV series have been shot in Toronto, and many of them are very well known. Most, however, are not actually set in the city, so few people know that they’re seeing Toronto and not New York City or Chicago, or any of the other cities Toronto gets casted as. Here are just three of the best known films from the past ten years that you might not have known were filmed in our city.
