Toronto is becoming more and more attractive to visitors! A record high number of hotel rooms were rented in the city in 2010, with approximately 8.93 million "hotel room nights" sold during the year, Tourism Toronto claims.
Hotel occupancy in the city went up to 68.3 percent last year, which is 9.7 percent higher than in 2009. Toronto has thus become the city with the sixth highest total occupancy rate in North America. To compare, it was 10th in 2008 and 2009 and 13th in 2007. Furthermore, about $4.5 billion has been brought to the city budget thanks to tourism; which certainly doesn't hurt, does it?
The G20 summit definitely contributed to the increase although it wasn’t the only cause. That was more about delegates from specific countries than about tourists. Nonetheless, I’m very pleased to hear this news! Toronto certainly deserves this kind of popularity; I believe it belongs to the most amazing cities on this Earth!
