Greater Toronto Area housing statistics from the first two weeks of this month have been published! It isn‘t really surprising — with 4,138 sales reported, there was a 5 per cent decline from the first two weeks of March 2010, when 4,353 homes were sold.

In the city of Toronto, 1,618 home sales were recorded — slightly down from the 1,726 sales seen during the first fourteen days of March 2010. On the other hand, the average price for a transaction — both in the GTA and in Toronto solely — increased over the year. In the GTA, it went up by 4.6 per cent, from $440,153 to $460,196. The average selling price in Toronto rose from $491,680 to $512,179 in the first two weeks of this month.

I do not think we should be dissatisfied with these numbers. The number of homes sold in the GTA during the first two weeks of March 2010 was amazing, it was actually 16 per cent higher than the number of sales recorded in another successful March – that of 2006.
