Elementary schools in our province are getting better and better, the Fraser Institute‘s Report Card on Ontario’s Elementary Schools 2011 shows. The report compares the academic level of schools across Ontario as well as any changes in their performance over the last five years. Parents are definitely going to appreciate this!
The percentage of exams scoring below the provincial standard has diminished over the last few years: it went from 33.0 per cent, recorded in 2006, to 30.1 per cent in 2010. While the overall news is not negative, and a lot of improvement was seen over the last couple of years, there is still much left to improve. If you are a parent and are interested, you can check out the academic performance of the 2,733 elementary schools in Ontario yourself here.
I think this website is an excellent resource for parents. When looking for a new home, having a good school nearby is one of the most important factors for many families. This will make it a lot easier for them to decide in which neighbourhood or area they want to settle down.
