What Do Home Buyers Prefer?
By Elli Davis, March 11, 2011
The 2011 TD Canada Trust Home Buyers Report has been released! The online survey upon which this report is based was conducted by Environics Research Group between December 22nd and 29th, 2010. Exactly 1,001 people who had either purchased a home within the last two years or who plan to do so in the next two years participated. Here are its main findings:

Intersection by Ian Muttoo
- when buying a home, about half of the respondents prefer brand new ones — some of them because they believe they will work perfectly (25 per cent), while some like the fact nobody has ever lived in them before (24 per cent)
- those who prefer older homes have good reason: approximately 34 per cent of the polled Canadians think they are of higher quality and 17 per cent believe older places have more character
- the most important thing about a potential new home is its cost, according to the vast majority of the polled Canadians, followed by its features, size, security and safety, and location
