Don’t Ignore the Elections

Politics aren’t generally among my favourite topics — which you may have noticed already, since I don’t write about political situations often. However, the recent hot topic in Canadian politics is well worth mentioning: federal elections are under way, and they will certainly affect us all.

After Stephen Harper‘s minority government was forced to resign due to a vote of non-confidence finding the Conservative party to be in contempt of Parliament, an election was set for May 2nd. You might be wondering how election predictions stand. A couple of polls roughly show that Harper‘s Conservatives remain pretty strong, even though the Liberals are slowly gaining more support. According to a new Nanos poll, the Conservatives are expected to win 39.1 per cent of the vote, while the Liberals are predicted to win 32.7 per cent, and the NDP 15.9 per cent.

These predictions will not necessarily prove accurate, of course. We still have a month left, and a lot can change in an election in this time. Although I don’t usually get involved with politics, I’d like to at least encourage you to vote. Don’t ignore your civic responsibilities, vote on May 2nd!
