Interval House started the BESS (Building Economic Self-Sufficiency) program over 10 years ago in response to what abused women needed: stability. Many of these women were afraid that if they left their partners, they would struggle to make ends meet, raise their children in poverty, and never achieve the life they wanted for themselves.

BESS was the first program to address these long term needs; providing employment and life skills workshops, help finding and maintaining jobs, developing career plans and accessing work-appropriate clothing. Almost as important as developing practical skills is the self-esteem that BESS participants gain by recognizing their talents and building friendships with their fellow classmates.

Graduates from recent years were honoured at the graduation ceremony on June 6th. As a supporter of Interval House, Elli was invited to attend this event. She was happy to join in the celebration of the success of these women, and wish them well in the future. Elli continues her support all year long, with a percentage of the commission from each of her deals going to Interval House.
