World’s Most Expensive Houses

By , June 30, 2011

Buying a home is not an easy task. For the majority of us, price is among the most important concerns of the purchase. There are people, though, who do not seem too concerned about money and whose homes cost a fortune. Take a look at some of the most expensive houses in the world. Would you like to live in one of these dream homes?

Antilia, Mumbai

The most expensive house in the world is located in Mumbai and its owner is Mukesh Ambani, one of the richest people in the world. The 27 storey, 40,000 sq ft mansion costs an insane amount of money — about $1 billion. It is unbelievably large and perhaps a little large for only one family to occupy. As well as a few guest rooms, the building has a swimming pool, a cinema, a gym, and a dance studio. To make moving around easier, it also has nine elevators. Incidentally, its garage is big enough for more than a hundred cars.

Villa Leopolda, French Riviera

This more than 80,000 sq ft villa on the French Riviera was built in 1902 by King Leopold II of Belgium. Costing approximately $750 million, it is among the most expensive homes in the world, even though its cost is significantly lower than that of the aforementioned most expensive building. A French banker named Edmond Safra previously owned the villa, which is situated in a fairy tale setting. The amazing 19-bedroom building with several dining rooms and kitchens provides everything from  a large movie theatre to a bowling alley, and multiple swimming pools. One definitely would not get bored here.

Hamptons, New York

The biggest privately owned home in the US is located in New York, and its price is approximately $170,000 million. Some of the most interesting aspects of this 29-bedroom home, owned by billionaire Ira Rennert, include a bowling alley, five sports courts, a hot tub worth $150,000, and (get ready) 39 bathrooms! It seems pretty attractive, but from looking at the picture, I think it would easy to get lost in this mansion. Playing hide and seek there must be fun, though!

The most expensive house in Toronto
There are a few outrageously expensive houses in Toronto, too. One of the most expensive, unsurprisingly, is among the most luxurious and costly homes in all of Canada. It is located at 9 High Point Road, situated in one the most posh neighbourhoods of our city. Worth more than $26 million (I know this is much lower than the other homes we have mentioned), the house has a bowling alley, tennis court, indoor pool, and much more. Interested?
