Condos are more popular than ever. As one of my previous articles mentioned, hundreds of condominium projects have been launched in Toronto over the last couple of years and every one of them undoubtedly contributes to the spirit of our city. How should we deal with the rising number of condos being built? What is there to know about condos in Toronto?
A graphic Vertical Toronto recently published in the Star provides answers to these questions. It tells you everything you could possibly want to know about Toronto condominiums.

Vintage Bathroom by 55Laney69
Do you ever think of how much of history lies in items or facilities you use daily? Look at, for instance, bathrooms. As natural as they might seem to the majority of us, bathrooms have not always been a part of everyday life. They do have an unbelievably rich history, however. If you want to learn a bit more about how, when, and where they emerged, read on.

Once it gets chilly outside, all one wants to do is huddle up under the blanket on a sofa with a cup of tea or hot chocolate. Believe it or not, insects have similar intentions. Not that they want to drink chocolate, but as they have no body fat, wintertime is pure hell for them. Unfortunately, what many of them are looking for is a nice, warm home to survive the cold winter months.

Leaving children home alone for the very first time is hard to do for any parent. What should you do if you have to leave your kids at home with no supervision?

Family Kitchen by Meaduva
The kitchen is a space that is commonly used by all members of the family. It serves not only as a work room, but it is also one of the main social spaces within our homes. Describing the history of the kitchen in all its complexity would take up a whole book (and some have attempted to do so — check out the Encyclopedia of Kitchen History by Snodgrass). I will voluntarily give up on such ambitions and provide you with a couple of fun facts connected to kitchen history.

Trip Money by bark
Where is it more expensive to live, in Canada or in the U.S.? As surprising as it might seem, cities in neither of these countries is home to the most expensive cities in the world, at least according to Mercer’s 2011 Cost of Living Survey. Even the most costly cities here are nowhere close to the top five globally: Luanda (Angola), Tokyo (Japan), N’Djamena (Chad), Moscow (Russia), and Geneva (Switzerland). Still, it is good to know which places in Canada and the U.S. cost the most and, on the other end of the spectrum, which are the least expensive.

Toronto Harbour Sailing by Andy Burgess
Water-related activities, as I mentioned in a few of my previous articles, are an inseparable part of the lives of many in the Toronto area. As well as playing in the water: swimming, or fishing, there are many other possibilities for taking advantage of the vast number of lakes we have here in Ontario. Sailing is definitely one of them. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, Toronto has a lot to offer.

We live in rushed times, my friends. Many of us spend very few hours at home everyday. When we are home, we want to sleep, spend time with our kids, cook, clean up, and take care of the garden at the same time. Of course, that is impossible. A great solution for those who can afford it is to hire help. The same goes for those who do not work all the time but still want to enjoy their lives instead of taking care of the house. What type of things should you consider when hiring domestic help?

Sometimes it is not easy to be vegetarian. It is not because of giving up meat, but thanks to meat-loving friends who often tend to forget that their vegetarian buddies might not want to spend every Friday night at a steak bar. In some restaurants, it is exceptionally hard to order a delicious vegetarian dish. Luckily, Toronto does not ignore vegetarians, and there are plenty of places to go if you want to enjoy good, meatless food.

Think of the dirtiest spots in your home. Where are they? I am almost positive most of us would think it is the trash can or the toilet. Wrong answer, my friends. The real dirt is somewhere completely different. It is a little funny that we are often trying to be as hygienic as possible, walking around the house with a duster, washing our hands all the time, using antibacterial gels, and so on. When trying to get rid of all the dirt, we often tend to neglect the places that seem clean enough, but are, in fact, the least clean. Let us take a closer look and discover the places that have much more bacteria than you would even imagine.

Jogging became a very popular form of physical activity a couple of decades ago. It is a fabulous way to stay fit, and a growing number of those who want to keep in shape favour this type of exercise. Take a walk around a park when the weather is nice and no matter what time of the day it is, you will likely see plenty of people jogging or running, staying healthy and burning calories. Hundreds of employees actually prefer to go jogging during their lunch break than to sit around.

Summer Fun by gfpeck
Summer is officially here! I know this statement does not surprise you, but I want to emphasize that we should not limit enjoyment of the warmer weather to our lifestyle — we should try to bring summer to our homes, too. I can guarantee you that almost anyone will be happier and in a better mood living in a home that radiates summer. What can we do to bring a summer atmosphere to our homes, and how is it possible to have a home fully adjusted to this time of the year? The answer, as you might have suspected, is not simple. There are some steps we can take to help get started, however. Here are some of them!
