Do you think kosher food is boring? If so, you have no idea how wrong you are! Any food is only as bland as its cook, and if you have a well-prepared kosher meal, you will enjoy it just as much as a ‘regular’ delicious dish. Experience just how tasty kosher food can get; visit some of the excellent (and innovative) kosher Toronto restaurants and you will never want to eat elsewhere. Here are a few suggestions.

Tov-Li

3519 Bathurst Street
5982 Bathurst St

Tov Li

In the very heart of Toronto, you will find Tov-Li, a restaurant offering delicious kosher vegetarian and Mediterranean food. Tov-Li is immensely popular — and not only among the Bathurst Jewish community. Do not be surprised if you have to wait a bit longer for your food to arrive.

Wondering what you can choose from? The variety is quite wide. Enjoy a range of all-day breakfast, regular or baked falafel, pizza, sandwiches, Israeli platters, salads, pasta, fish, veggie burgers, and desserts. The restaurant also offers catering for various events, and honestly, I would consider having a birthday dinner with food from this great place. If you want healthy, fresh food with no preservatives that tastes great, Tov-Li is the place to go.

Dr. Laffa

401 Magnetic Drive #3

Dr Laffa

Dr. Laffa is now a well-known brand among kosher food lovers in Toronto, but looking at its humble beginnings, you would never guess. This originally small bakery gained a fantastic reputation over a relatively short period and it is now one of the most popular restaurants offering delicious Middle Eastern food.

Hundreds of Torontonians have fallen in love with this place and regularly enjoy some of the fresh, tasty soups, sandwiches, desserts, and specials (including Moroccan fish and Iraqi kubba) Dr Laffa offers. “The laffa is original, rare, and authentic. It is for everyone to explore.” Do not hesitate to visit or order your meal online. Bon appetite!

Umami Sushi

3459 Bathurst Street

Umami Sushi

As unbelievable as it sounds, even delicious sushi can be kosher and Umami sushi has been proving this since 2001. In 2006, the North York Post’s actually rated Umami Sushi as the “Best Kosher Maki” and you certainly will not be disappointed if you try it out. Their decades of experience should certainly convince you.

Umami sushi offers more than sushi, however. Since 2007, customers have been able to enjoy the fantastic noodle menu. “Toronto’s Original Kosher authentic sushi establishment” provides its customers with the freshest and highest-quality products, and there is no doubt in my mind that your first visit to this place will not be your last.

D-Lite’s

441 Clark Ave. West, Thornhill

DLites

Umami sushi is not the only kosher Japanese restaurant around Toronto that is worth visiting. D-Lite’s, a restaurant that opened its doors in 2007, should be mentioned as well. Various kinds of fresh sushi, salads, and the restaurant’s signature dish, sushi-pizza, will certainly not disappoint. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and together with the friendly staff and delicious food, it makes for a lovely dinner experience. If you are craving kosher sushi, visit and enjoy the “sophistication with a flare of cosiness” that this restaurant offers.

Marron Bistro

948 Eglinton Ave W

Marron

If you are looking for a really fancy kosher restaurant, Marron Bistro might well be the one for you. “Exciting, delicious, elegant, and memorable” are the adjectives the restaurant uses to describe its offerings — and I can say that is the truth! The fact that the restaurant’s chef, Earn Maroon, was named 2009 Chef of Distinction sponsored by the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo speaks for itself.

Visit Marron Bistro and let French and Modern kosher cuisine of the highest quality make your evening truly unforgettable. Dinner is, however, not the only time you can visit; Marron Bistro also offers a variety of lunch specials to attract customers looking for a delicious mid-day meal. If you add their excellent service and great atmosphere, the overall impression is just perfect.
