With the weather becoming lovelier every day, more Torontonians are looking to venture out of doors to enjoy the greenery that summer has to offer. As we are still slowly reopening the economy and not all shops and restaurants are open, one of the best ways to enjoy summer is to walk through one of its many beautiful parks. Here are some of the best Toronto parks that I think you should visit:
Located in the Don Valley, this park demonstrates a diverse ecosystem. You will find wildflower meadows, wetlands, forest habitats, steep cliff faces and many more. This award-winning community environmental centre is a must-see regardless of the time of year.
High Park is Toronto’s largest park and offers something for almost everyone. There are dozens of hiking trails, playgrounds, and sports facilities. If you are love landscaping, you will enjoy the plethora of garden styles: Victorian, Japanese, French, and many more. High Park is famous for its greenhouses, picnic areas, free mini-zoo and the cherry blossoms which attract thousands each year, and were live-streamed on a “Bloom Cam” this year.
One of the best Toronto parks are the Scarborough Bluffs. This beautiful park stretches for 15km along Lake Ontario and offers stunning views every step of the way. In addition to white cliffs, you will find beaches, trails, and excellent butterfly watching.
For some reason, Rouge Park seems to be one of Toronto’s best kept secrets. However, those who are Scarborough-based have known and loved this spot for years. This park is on its way to becoming Canada’s first national urban park! If you are outdoorsy but live in the city, this is the perfect place for you. You do not need to travel up to Algonquin to take part in amazing hiking, swimming, canoeing, fishing and camping – you just need to go to Rouge Park!
While this park recently received some notoriety, it is a park that offers a lot to its visitors. If you are a fan of sports you will have plenty to enjoy as this park features baseball, volleyball and tennis facilities. There are a number of picnic sites, playgrounds and greenhouses to enjoy!
Another hidden gem you must visit is Withrow Park. This park is located in Riverdale and features eight hectares of lush green space. Whether you want to play with your dog or take the kids to play in the splashpad, there is something here for you. Skating and carolling parties are held in the winter, pumpkin parades in the fall, and plenty of picnics in the summer! If you are the athletic type, there are facilities for tennis, table tennis, and other sports.
This is not a comprehensive list of the best Toronto parks. In my opinion, that list could only be complete with your input! I would love if you would share with me your favourite parks in Toronto and why they are so.
