Support Small Businesses in Toronto
Now, more than ever, our local small businesses in Toronto need our help. As we are all approaching the holiday season, I want to show you the many ways you can shop local while buying quality products for your loved ones. Here are some of my favourite ways to support small businesses in Toronto.
Subscription Boxes
If you like the idea of a gift that keeps on giving, sign up for the Box of 6ix Subscription Box. Each month, this company selects a different Toronto neighbourhood and sends you a package of goodies from local small businesses in that neighbourhood!
Another box that comes highly recommended is the Culinary Adventure Co.’s Food Tour in a Box, which features food tours of popular foodie neighbourhoods in Toronto. They’ve even created specialized boxes for those with specific food tastes such as The Baker, The Butcher, The Cheesemonger, and the Adventurer just to name a few. A current favourite on their website is the Christmas Market Food Tour so you can feel like you went to the Christmas market this year after all.
Holiday Boxes
Is the idea of a subscription box nice to you but you would prefer just one box? Consider getting a holiday box from Big Rock Brewery who has teamed up with local businesses in Liberty Village to get you a little taste of the neighbourhood. You can expect the brewery’s Big Rock Winter Spice Ale, their festive glassware, chocolate bark from COCO XO and biscotti from Brodflour.
Similar to a holiday box is the Bag of Toronto which is a bag of five to seven specialty goods from popular neighbourhoods in Toronto. This bag is sure to make you feel good as not only will you be helping small businesses in Toronto, a portion of the profits and tips of each bag will go directly to a charity in the neighbourhood you chose to purchase your products from.
Gourmet Kits
One of my favourite reasons to go out to a restaurant or bar is to try something I would not normally be able to do at home. In fact, some places are so famous for one item that no matter how hard you try to replicate it at home, it is never quite the same. With gourmet kits, you can bring your favourite restaurant experience home – including the drinks! If you are a fan of rum punch or hot toddies, you need to look at Reyna, Patois, and Project Gigglewater’s kits. If you want something a little more upscale, the Fairmont Royal York is currently offering a Clockwork Champagne & Cocktails kit.
Go Online
Many people tend to think the only way to shop locally is to shop in store. While that may be true for some local businesses, online is definitely possible! When you shop at Toronto Market Co., you are not just shopping at one specific local small businesses, in fact you are shopping in a marketplace that features over 80 local vendors! You can search by theme, product, whatever your heart desires. This is also a fantastic place to get corporate gifts.
Have you tried any of these local small businesses? Do you have any extraordinary local shops that you would like to share? Please reach out to me and I would be more than happy to chat with you about them.
