Toronto is made up of a beautiful and diverse collection of neighbourhoods – each with their own unique identity. Some are perfect for young professionals and others are better for families. Today, I want to share with you my top family friendly neighbourhoods in Toronto.
North Toronto
This neighbourhood is located in and around the Yonge and Eglinton intersection. This neighbourhood has convenient subway access, numerous parks and great schools. While the average price of a detached home may be out of budget for some families (approximately $2,000,000), there are many entry-level condos that are at a much more family-friendly price (approximately $600,000).
Banbury-Don Mills
Another one of the top family friendly neighbourhoods in Toronto is also located in North Toronto. This neighbourhood is home to the CF Shops at Don Mills which is filled with a wide range of retailers and restaurants. Fairview Mall is also within close proximity. Culture buffs can visit the Aga Khan Museum which features artistic, intellectual and scientific contributions of Muslim civilizations. This neighbourhood feels like it has one foot in the suburbs and one foot in the city, which makes it perfect for young families. Similar in price to North Toronto, detached homes cost approximately $2,000,000 +, but the many family-friendly condos available are in the $600,000 range.
Deer Park
This neighbourhood is located in and around the Yonge and St. Clair intersection. This neighbourhood is a bustling one filled with shopping, entertainment and businesses. You can find a beautiful array of homes from newer townhouses, older detached houses and everything in between. If you care deeply about sending your child to a top-rated school, the prestigious Upper Canada College resides in this neighbourhood. If you love greenery, you can enjoy Oriole Park as well as the David A. Balfour Park which features a waterfall, a flower garden and the Rosehill reservoir – all within its 20 hectares! While the price of a detached home is north of $3,000,00, families can find a much more affordable condo in the $900,000 range.
The Beaches
If a beautiful view matters a lot to you, look no further than The Beaches. With its beautiful boardwalks and easy access to the Gardiner and Lakeshore expressways, it is no wonder this neighbourhood is perfect for families. You can reach downtown with just one streetcar ride – but why go downtown when The Beaches hosts many great events such as an annual jazz festival and a Christmas Tree and Menorah lighting festival? While a detached home can set you back approximately $1,800,000, you can move into a family-friendly condo for around $700,000.
Roncesvalles
Roncesvalles is located close to High Park, downtown and the Toronto waterfront – the best of all worlds! Play with your children in the many playgrounds located in High Park or even visit its zoo! While the price of an average detached home is around $1,500,000 you can affordably enter the neighbourhood with a condo for approximately $800,000.
